The PEAK Health Sciences pathway blends practical instruction with clinical experience, equipping students with the foundational knowledge necessary to begin a healthcare career or pursue advanced credentials through further education.

The Health Sciences pathway offers four areas of specialized study:

Certified Nursing Assistant

Licensed Practical Nursing

Emergency Medical Technician

Patient Care Technician

Each programs builds on a common core of classes designed to give students the fundamental knowledge needed to succeed in the field. This solid foundation allows students to advance into more specialized areas of manufacturing and advanced courses. The Health Science programs provide focused expertise, ensuring students are well-prepared for a successful career in the industry.

Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)

Students in the Certified Nursing Assistant program gain hands-on experience in clinical settings, working directly with residents in local long-term care facilities. Throughout the program, they explore various healthcare careers and learn essential medical terminology necessary for success in healthcare professions. Upon completing this two-year program, students will fulfill the requirements to take the CNA certification exam.

Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN)

PEAK's Practical Nursing program offers students a blend of classroom instruction and hands-on clinical experience. In this competitive program, accepted students learn in a state-of-the-art facility and work directly with clients at local healthcare facilities. The curriculum, approved by the Arkansas State Board of Nursing, equips students with the training necessary to qualify for the Practical Nurse licensure exam (NCLEX-PN).

Upon successful completion of the Practical Nursing Program and passing the NCLEX, students become eligible to apply for a Practical Nursing license. For more information on Arkansas state requirements, click here.

Emergency Medical Technician

The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) program equips students with essential medical knowledge and skills to provide immediate care in emergency situations. EMTs are trained to stabilize and safely transport patients, from routine medical transfers to life-threatening emergencies.

Students can combine their passion for helping others with the fast-paced excitement of emergency response through PEAK's EMT program. This training offers EMT certification and provides a solid foundation for pursuing advanced healthcare certifications.

Patient Care Technician (PCT) 

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) program provides a comprehensive introduction to healthcare careers, medical terminology, and hands-on experience in clinical settings. Students learn essential skills to provide personalized care to patients while developing problem-solving and critical thinking skills.

This one-year program blends classroom learning with clinical practice and prepares students. After completing the program, students are eligible to take the Patient Care Technician Certification exam through the NCCT.

This program is open only to Fort Smith Public Schools seniors.
