These programs equip students with practical knowledge to help them succeed in their chosen fields. They also play a vital role in supporting the growth of the local workforce. Through a combination of classroom learning and real-world experience, apprentices are prepared for long-term career success.

Residential Construction Apprentice Program (RCAP)

Carpenters work with various materials to construct, install, and maintain everything from buildings to furniture. Carpentry is the largest and most diverse of all building trades, featuring many specialized areas. Though construction work can be physically demanding, it is also highly creative. Students who enjoy working with their hands, have a talent for math, and possess an eye for detail may find carpentry to be an great fit.

This 18-month apprenticeship program offers 288 hours of hands-on training in essential construction skills. Apprentices gain the knowledge and experience needed to succeed in residential construction. The construction industry is expected to grow by 4.7% from 2024 to 2028, fueled by sustainable practices, population growth, and technological advancements.

This program is offered in collaboration with the Greater Fort Smith Association of Homebuilders.

Plumbing Apprenticeship Program

Plumbers play a critical role in installing, maintaining, and repairing essential systems for water, waste, and gas. Their expertise ensures the safe and efficient operation of residential, commercial, and industrial facilities.

This comprehensive four-year apprenticeship program combines full-time employment with evening classes, offering a total of 640 hours of classroom instruction and 8,000 hours of hands-on, on-the-job training. Upon completion, participants will be eligible to take the Journeyman Plumbing License exam, with the opportunity to advance their careers.

In addition to practical training, apprentices receive a range of benefits, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, 401(k) matching, and more. To qualify, applicants must be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma or GED.

This program is offered in collaboration with the Arkansas Construction Education Foundation.
