Connecting Students Through Experiences

Charting a Course from Exploration to Preparation

Fort Smith Public Schools is dedicated to nurturing career exploration and development throughout each stage of our students' educational journeys. Beginning in elementary school, students participate in activities designed to ignite their interests in diverse career paths. As they transition to middle school, they engage in deeper explorations of various fields, helping them identify their strengths and passions. In high school, the focus shifts to comprehensive career planning, where students participate in specialized programs that provide hands-on experiences, preparing them for future careers.

A pivotal component of this journey is the Peak Innovation Center, which hosts events like the iCan Career Expo and Draft Day. These events offer invaluable opportunities for students to connect with potential employers, gain insights into a variety of careers, and explore exciting pathways for their futures.

iCan Career Expo

The iCan Career Expo connects middle school students with local businesses, industries, and higher education institutions. The expo provides students with hands-on learning opportunities and valuable insights into a wide range of career paths. Through interactive exhibits and engaging conversations with professionals, students can explore future careers, discover their interests, and learn the skills they need to succeed in today’s workforce. The iCan Career Expo empowers students to make informed decisions about their educational and career goals.

Draft Day: Be Pro Be Proud

River Valley students have the unique opportunity to participate in Be Pro Be Proud's Draft Day, an exciting event designed to showcase skilled trades and technical careers. During Draft Day, students engage with industry professionals, explore hands-on exhibits, and compete in challenges that highlight their abilities. Top performers have the chance to be "drafted" by local companies, gaining direct access to job offers, apprenticeships, and scholarships. This event helps students connect their skills to real-world career opportunities and shines a spotlight on the rewarding pathways available in high-demand industries.
